Featured Artist: Kimberly Abbott

My favorite artists are: Turner and O’Keeffe are most definitely my faves!! I also love Van Gogh, Kandinsky, and Pollack as well as several modern day abstract artists.kimberlyabbott

My work is a combination of: Emotion coupled with my surroundings and driven by music.

I live in Queens because: Besides being affordable, there is so much to do here in Astoria!! There are a ton of of great restaurants, lounges, shops, music venues and more keep popping up!! Plus the proximity to the city is great….you’re close enough and yet far enough away.

To Instagram or not to Instagram: I’ve gone back and forth on this one! As an artist, I think Instagram can be a fun way to connect with people and show what you’re up to so I would say to Instagram!

To be an artist means I pay my bills by: I would like to say that I pay my bills solely with my art but I’m not quite at that point…yet!! I am very grateful that I have a part-time job I love and that also allows me ample time to focus on my work.

Queens would have a better artist community if it: Continued to create more events like the Astoria Arts Festival and LIC Open as well as ongoing exhibition opportunities.

My go to website for ideas is: I don’t have one in particular. Funny enough I get a great deal of inspiration from my fellow artists on Facebook. It’s great to stroll through the feed and see what everyone is up to!! I also love getting color inspiration from a few favorite clothing and interior decorating sites.

In 5 years, Queens will mean this to artists: If opportunities continue to grow, I can I only imagine Queens will be a thriving location for artists to mix, mingle and explore.

Always: Work on your craft every day!! Even if you can only get 15 minutes in in a given day, it’s worth it!!

Never: Never stop striving for what you want!!
