My work is a combination of : personal experiences and the stories of others.
I live in Queens because: The diversity and feeling of community is something I have not experience anywhere else but Queens. I was born and raised here – Queens is family.
To instagram or not to instagram: It’s another medium and an accessible way to showcase ideas/opinions. Although instagram might not be used in that fashion, the potential is there.
Being an artist means I pay my bills by: indulging in my other interests (or art) to make money. Part-time jobs for the win.
Queens could have a better artist community if: there were more opportunities for locals to engage in the arts. If Queens residents became understanding of the importance of the arts to education, self-reflection and spiritual healing, then more opportunities for artists will rise.
My go to website for ideas: nytimes. Any news website or Netflix for documentaries.
In 5 years, Queens will mean this to artists: A place to learn how to engage in different cultures, and how to use that diversity (either in ideas or materials) in their arts.
Always: be curious
Never: say “because that’s just how things are”.
My next project is: Collaborating on a mixed media project about cultural/ethnic identity with a peer in London.
